District 12 Commissioner Jim Modlin
In the August 2014 General Election, Jim Modlin was elected County Commissioner representing District 12. He resides in the Center Community with his wife Carole, who is a retired United Methodist minister, portrait artist, and licensed pilot. They have two daughters living in Alabama and one in Texas. Jim and Carole are active members of Summertown United Methodist Church.
Jim is a Veteran and joined the Army National Guard while still in high school. After over two and a half years in the Guard, he joined the United States Air Force serving four years and receiving an honorable discharge.
Jim’s work experience has been quite varied with several years as a Game Warden, and then as a Park Ranger with the National Park Service and the Army Corps of Engineers. After becoming a Certified Flight Instructor, Modlin went to work with the FAA as an Air Traffic Control Specialist assigned to Flight Service Stations. He retired from the Federal Government after over 25 years in service.
While working with the government, Modlin, on his own time, received a Master’s Degree in International Studies from Troy University in Dothan, Alabama. He also taught as an adjunct history professor.
In the last few years, Modlin has attended many County Commission meetings, both committee and full sessions. This experience helps him better to serve the people in District 12. “They deserve nothing less,” Modlin says.
